The whole world just learned where Andy Cohen got his sass from. During Monday night’s (Dec. 2) episode of the Watch What Happens Live: After Show, the talk show host became distracted by a lengthy text message he received from his mother, Evelyn Cohen, just before they went on the air.
When the cameras began rolling, Andy — who had welcomed actors Stephanie Hsu and Ralph Fiennes into the Bravo Clubhouse that night — was still staring down at his phone.
“Alright, I’m just reading a — my mom is ripping me a new one over text,” he explained.
According to the Real Housewives executive producer, it all started when his mother asked if she and her husband would be making a guest appearance on his New Year’s Eve broadcast with Anderson Cooper this year.
“She’s like, ‘Do you have any idea what time we may be on on New Year’s Eve? I have to make a dinner reservation. Or maybe you don’t want us on! I did not like your comments on your radio show this morning,’” Cohen read from his phone. “And then she goes into detail about her issues with what I said.”
Fiennes then wondered what comments he made on his Sirius XM radio show Andy Cohen Live.
“I complained about the heat in her apartment,” Cohen admitted. “And then she says, ‘Also, we don’t live in a loft with two apartments downstairs. There are three bedrooms. Also, you could’ve said more about the zoo than Lucy talking about the penguins pooping. It was funny but it’s all you said. That being said, we really had a great weekend.’”
Cohen turned to the camera and said, “Sorry,” seemingly addressing his mother directly after outing their private messages in front of a national audience.
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
