It was a big day on The View as former president Bill Clinton stopped by to chat all things politics, including the “phony story” about his wife Hillary Clinton and her infamous email controversy.
Sunny Hostin kicked off the segment by pointing out that Donald Trump would be returning to the White House in just over a month with “sweeping immunity” and an “alleged enemies list.” Kash Patel, who Trump picked to run the FBI, reportedly has Hillary’s name on his own list of potential targets, according to Hostin.
“They got a problem with her because — first, she didn’t do anything wrong. Second, she followed the rules exactly as they were written,” Bill told the co-hosts.
“Third, Trump’s state department found — remember how the emails were such a big issue in 2016? Trump’s state department found that Hillary sent and received exactly zero classified emails on her personal device,” he continued. “It was a made-up, phony story. I guess if Kash Patel was determined to make one up, he could do it.”
When Hillary was running for president in 2016, she was accused of using a private email server to send and receive classified information while working as the Secretary of State. However, former FBI Director James Comey said he would not recommend criminal charges at the time, noting that while Hillary and her aides were “extremely careless” with the emails, “no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”
In the event that Trump does go after his 2016 opponent, Hostin asked Bill whether Biden should “preemptively pardon” her and other targets.
“I think if President Biden wanted to talk to me about that, I would talk to him about it, but I don’t think I should be giving public advice on the pardon power,” he said. “I think it’s too — it’s a very personal thing.”
Bill, for his part, was hopeful that Trump would not go after his foes.
“Most of us get out of this world ahead of where we’d get if all we got was simple justice,” he said. “And so, it’s normally a fool’s error to spend a lot of time trying to get even.”
