Drew Barrymore Details Chaotic Mornings With Two Daughters: “It’s A Struggle”

Drew Barrymore‘s mornings are just as chaotic as any other parent of young kids. On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress-turned-talk show host offered some insight into her home life with her daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10.

Barrymore was sitting down with Brilliant Minds star Zachary Quinto when a discussion about time management came up.

“I’m on a time management kick right now,” Barrymore said. “We’re always, like, three minutes late to school.”

She then turned to the camera and apologized to anyone her tardiness had impacted. “I’m so sorry. You all know that those affected by — they understand,” she said.

But Barrymore still didn’t get why she and her kids were always late since they typically wake up with ample time to get to school.

“We wake up at 6:30 [a.m.] to be at school by 8 [a.m.]. So that’s an hour-and-a-half and it’s a struggle. It’s really hard,” she said. “They want to eat something at the last second. Their shoes, the bed, the chaos. I’m like, ‘How are we not doing this in 90 minutes?!’ I’ve got alarms set everywhere. It’s hard.”

Quinto, who said he tries to never be more than seven minutes late for anything, added, “I couldn’t imagine the variable of kids in the routine.”

However, Barrymore confessed that she’s always struggled with being on time — even before she had children.

“I didn’t have kids my whole life and I’ve had this issue my whole life,” she said. “But I’m working on it.”

Barrymore, who shares her daughters with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, has been talking about her kids more often on The Drew Barrymore Show. Just last month, she revealed how Adam Sandler helped her get back into acting after giving birth for the first time in 2012.

“I went and worked with Adam Sandler and that felt safe because I knew he had two daughters,” she said on the Nov. 15 episode of her show. “And he was someone I trusted with everything that I know and I just thought, ‘I’ll be adjacent to people who I know work and have kids and that will make me feel safer.’”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
