Some people inherit jewelry and money when their grandparents pass away, but Saturday Night Live star Sarah Sherman got to walk away with her grandmother’s prosthetic eyeball.
The comedian appeared on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, where she joined host Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews at the Drew’s News desk.
The trio discussed one man’s decision to propose to his girlfriend with a piece of cheese next to a dumpster. While it may seem odd to many people, the proposal came nine years after they shared a “special moment” in front of a dumpster when his girlfriend asked him out by writing on a piece of cheese, per People.
“I think it’s sweet. Now she never has to be a Craft Single,” Mathews, a.k.a. King of Puns, quipped.
Barrymore then asked Sherman if she had any similar romantic experiences to the couple in question.
“My boyfriend got me a necklace with a tooth on it. A real tooth. I said, ‘You know what? You know me, you understand me, you see me, and you accept me for who I am,’” Sherman recalled, noting that she doesn’t even know who the tooth once belonged to.
However, that wasn’t the only piece of odd memorabilia she had in her possession.
“I have a necklace — now I’m spilling everything — I have a necklace of my deceased grandma’s prosthetic eyeball,” Sherman said, to which Mathews joked, “Ironically, I did not see that coming.”
Barrymore, for her part, inherited her first name from her ancestors.
“The Barrymores came from Ireland to Pennsylvania. But not just the Barrymores, they married into a family called the Drews,” she explained during a May episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “So that’s why my name is Drew Barrymore.”
“My grandmother Georgiana Drew and her father John Drew were big into the theater and then she married Maurice Barrymore,” she continued. “And so the Drew and the Barrymore are from the two names of my family.”
