Taylor Sheridan slammed for appearing in 'Yellowstone' too much

“Yellowstone” fans had enough of seeing creator Taylor Sheridan on the show.

Sheridan, 54, made several on-screen appearances as horse trainer Travis Wheatley in the final few episodes of Season 5B, including last week’s penultimate episode, where supermodel Bella Hadid played his girlfriend, and in Sunday night’s (supposed) series finale that got mixed reviews from viewers.

Fans bashed Sheridan after the finale on social media for excessively writing himself into his own series.

“Some day I hope to find someone that loves me half as much as Taylor Sheridan loves himself. These final episodes of #yellowstone are so centered on him it’s crazy and cringe at the same time,” one viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Of course Taylor Sheridan inserted himself in the series finale. Nobody cares about you, or your character,” another fan said.

Someone else added, “Last nights episode of #Yellowstone really displayed the size of Taylor Sheridan’s ego.”

A different fan tweeted, “Weird flex that Taylor Sheridan took 2 years to write these final episodes THAT CENTERS ON HIM! We don’t care about Travis.”

“Taylor Sheridan put himself in to many scenes when he was not an integral part of the family,” another viewer wrote.

“Can they take Taylor Sheridan and this horrible character to the train station also? What an a$$hole!” said another fan.

After the penultimate episode, executive producer Christina Voros spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Sheridan’s role as Travis on the show.

“It was wonderful to see Taylor have fun in a way that is such an incorporation of life imitating, art imitating life in terms of it being shot in a place that he has built,” she said.

“[Taylor is] known as this writer of these great American Western TV sagas, but he’s also a cowboy and a tremendous horseman, and spends as much time doing that part of his personality and his life as he does writing the stories about that,” Voros added.

The “Yellowstone” finale divided fans, with some praising the ending while others called it a “disaster.”

During the episode, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) sold the ranch to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birminghan), while Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) killed her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) as revenge for their dad John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) murder.

Paramount announced that the show would end with Season 5 last year after Kevin Costner’s dramatic exit.

The Oscar winner, 69, quit the series amid rumors of a feud with Sheridan, who claimed Costner left the show to focus on his Western movie, “Horizon” — which Costner has denied.

“His creation of John Dutton is symbolic and powerful … and I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone,” Sheridan said to The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023.

“But once lawyers get involved, then people don’t get to talk to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and attempt to shift blame based on how the press or public seem to be reacting,” he added. “He took a lot of this on the chin and I don’t know that anyone deserves it. His movie seems to be a great priority to him and he wants to shift focus. I sure hope [the movie is] worth it.”

Sheridan ultimately dealt with Costner’s absence by killing John off in a hit man attack
